The Taos County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday (Dec. 4, 2018) unanimously approved an application for a hardware store and other retail space on about 7 acres of land on State Road 150.
No one spoke against the development before the commission voted on the project.
The developer is proposing a 17,268 square-foot hardware store, nursery and additional retail space not far from the intersection of U.S. 64 and State Road 150. It’s close to and on the same side of the road as the Randall Ranch and Feed store. The new hardware store and nursery will be a franchised Ace Hardware store owned by Denis Coca, who also owns Rio Grande Ace Hardware on Este Es Road in Taos.
The application was formally submitted to the county in April. After some back and forth with the Taos County planning department, the plan was deemed complete Sept. 10 and received conditional approval at the planning commission meeting Oct. 10. A public hearing was held Nov. 27, but the final vote came Tuesday.
The county’s land use regulations dictate that the county commissioners have the final say over the project because of the size and scope of the proposal.
